Well, I clearly take way too many pictures because I have spent hours pouring over them, tweaking, critiquing, and by now I could have blogged all of 2011. I am almost there though (well, almost there as far as the 700 or so pics I took in Utah - the rest of 2011 is another story). Here is another day or two from our terrific trip out west:
We went to Mammoth Caves, which are actually really close to the cabin. Most of the boys took the four wheelers, and Grandma, Walker and I decided to stay clean and drove in the car. The whole time I was looking down into the caves I was thinking how much it would hurt to fall. The lava is so rough and hard. Well, towards the end of our trip Grandpa did just that and hurt his knee and hand. OUCH. And he and Grandma were scheduled to head out to the islands as water resource specialists. Not the best timing. Grandkids can be hazardous to one's health.
These caves were COOL! And creepy, and amazing, and chilly, and made out of lava...did I mention cool? You can go down in one hole in the ground and pop up in another, 50 yards away, like a ground hog.
Ya, I know. Blurry. It is hard to take pictures in caves though!

Grandma and I decided to stay above ground. She is smart and I am chicken.

We lost Tate for a little bit, but not too long.

I love this picture.

We went fishing too. Grandpa is the most patient human being on the planet.

Very patient.

By the way, the foliage was AMAZING. The aspens were brilliant with golds and oranges. Ho-ly cow.

LOVE this picture too.

Doug is patient too. I know where he gets it from. If our kids are impatient (just sayin'), we know who they got it from. And it isn't Doug.
Let's just say the fish were not biting. Can you tell?

The kids kept at it for a long time (waaaay longer than I would have) and got pretty good at casting their, um, their, fishing wire and bait and all. Whatever you call it. LINE! Fishing line. Next year I am
sure we will have more success. They were great sports though (and so were Dad and Grandpa).
